Marcum VS 250
MARCUM
Excellent value in an underwater camera!

This is the outperforming underwater viewing system anyone can afford! The Marcum VS-250 is designed to satisfy the avid angler, yet priced for the casual weekend water warrior. Loaded with features including a high-resolution, low-lux Sony CCD camera; camera weight, 65 feet of camera cable; 400 TV-line, 5.5-inch, B&W monitor; ON/OFF LED switch; LED Dimmer, Brightness and Contrast controls; AV output jack; 12-volt, 7-amp sealed lead acid battery; two-stage charger; and padded soft-pack with built in sun shield — all for an unbelievably affordable price! Once upon a time underwater cameras were only for the serious angler, now everyone can enjoy the advantages of underwater viewing.

Now I have used the Marcum VS 350 underwater camera extensively and was thouroughly impressed with the performance and value. This unit has a 7 inch screen and will run about 6-7 hours on a charge depending on the temperatures. The larger screen is nice but bigger doesn't always mean better when it comes to ice fishing and hauling gear in your portable ice fsihing shelter or sled. Having a slighly smaller unit may make a difference if you are going solo or are in a smaller shelter. It can get crowed in there in a hurry. Just a thought...

Other details and other stuff you need with this type of camera
The Marcum 250 and 350 are stationary cameras just like ALL of the Aqua Vu's, too. That means that the camera only faces one direction and has to be manually truned by grabbing the cable and twisting it around. Doesn't sound hard to do and it's not difficult BUT, your camerable hangs off the edge of the hole. When water is freezing in a drilled hole, where does it freeze the thickest first? Around the edge, of course. When your camera cable gets frozen in and you have to chop or break it out at the end of the day, you may have some problems. Screw up that cable and you'll have a problem that will end up costing you. Here's the solution and it works pretty well. Use the suspension tripod mad by Aqua Vu.

Aqua Vu Ice Pod Aqua Vu Ice Pod

This simple doohickey is well worth the investment. There is ONE thing you need to do, however. See that little black knob sitting on top of the ice pod. That's a loose and critical part. It's also small and easy to forget at home or drop down the hole. The little bugger sinks like a stone. It's easy to drop unless you're like me with the steady hands of a surgeon. So, you need to be really careful with it or better still, drill a 3/32" hole thru the edge of it and attach a little yellow foam bobber to it via monofilament. Make sure the bobber will hold it up if you drop it down the hole, too. The other option is to tether it to the tripod, but then it's harder to turn. These are $14.95 and worth every penny! Your other option to turn the camera is again made by Aqua Vu and it's a remote controlled rotating dojobber that runs on it's own 12 volt battery. We can special order these if you want one BUT they don't make a lot of sense to for you to purchase one if you are planning on getting a camera for the first time. There are cameras out there which have built in motors for turning and don't need the extra batteries and gear. If you are in the process of shopping for a camera and want automatic rotation, you might as well get a Marcum VS 460 or Marcum VS 560 right off the bat. All the turning stuff is build right inside and you don't need to haul around lots of extra junk. Buying a brand new camera and then getting the extra actuator for turning the camera will cost you about the same or more than getting a Marcum VS 460 which happens to be an exceptional camera in one neat package.

Now, if you already own a camera, then they DO make more sense. Instead of going out and buying a whole new camera to get the turning feature, getting an actuator makes for better financing. Why get a new camera if the old one still works well but you just want to turn it around without bending over and adjusting the cable?

Another way you avoid having to turn the camera is in the next diagram. When I go out, I like to drill three holes. One for the camera that is placed so that it can see two holes without having to be moved. Here's a diagram:

Summary - As with everything, all cameras have trade-offs. If you want a reliable, effective camera with infrared capabilty, this one is a good one to consider, plus having a smaller screen extends your battery time significantly. Probably will get 9 hours out of a charge. I know the Marcum VS 460 (and 560) runs at least that long and I expect the same for the VS 250 as well being that they both have 5" screens. One more cool feature not found in Aqua Vu's - In the Marcum VS 250 and 350, you can slide that shiny silver weight forward to make the camera look downward or slide it back to look upward.

This unit has 50 feet of 200 lb. test cable. Order Online HERE!
