Hali Smollti Lures for something the fish haven't before seen. Made by O. Korkiakoski, one of the famous luremakers in Finland. This lure design is also capable of extra long casts.

Tie on a good quality snap swivel (Spro or Rosco) and attach a Nils Master Smoltti to your line. This is a slightly slower sinking cross between a spoon and a plug. Kind of like a fat spoon. Cast it over weedbeds and retrieve it (rod tip high) with a slow to moderate pace maybe with a little quick jigging action while cranking. If you want some real water disturbance give it a more violent jerk during the retrieve while holding your rod tip closer to the water. Big northerns and muskies will have a hard time NOT checking out what is causing the rattling commotion over their territory.

For lake trout, troll a Smoltti over deep water about 50-75 feet behind the boat or canoe. For this use, attach the big single hook that comes with each Smoltti and put the treble away. You can also cast it off shore in search of big predators. Lots of different colors. Choose more silver/white Smoltti for clear water/bright days and gold sided ones for dark water/dark days.

Ice Fishing - I just used the one you see above through the ice. It sank fairly quickly and was a little slower than a kandlefish or swedish pimple in the descent. I then jigged it up and down and noted that it has as really great fluttering action on the up-swing and it lays down sideways and then glides outward on the drop. I thought it was really great action and a northern pike came in to investigate. He stared at it, so I held it still. He stared at it some more, I jiggled it. He stared some more, so I dropped it in the mud. Then I explosively jerked it up in front of his nose and he explosively took off running. The Smollti was cool looking to me anyways. I can't wait to try it out in deep water with lake trout. The northern that day was just passing time. It must get boring under the ice.

For use in Quetico Park of Canada, replace the the hook with a #2 Gamakatsu Barbless Treble Hook available here at our online catalog.
