Standout Hooks for Ice Fishing present your bait to the fish. Why make the fish work harder that it needs to work to bite your minnow? Drop shot rigs are neat, but tying that dropshot knot (at least for me) is a pain. If you don't tie the right knot, you end up with a common hook tied to the line. We even sell drop shot rigs already put together, but they still aren't as handy as these babies! I saw 'em at a dealer tackle show and knew that these were the hooks that I HAVE to try this winter. It'll be especially cool because with an underwater camera going, I'll see first hand what's going on down there!

Rigigng Standout hooks with livebait

This isn't a legal rig in Minnesota, but in some states it is. Pretty cool way to troll. In MN, you'd put a drop shot weight where the jig is located. You can only have one hook on the line unless it's a treble hook rig or a worm harness both of which have a spinner attached and are designed to catch one fish at a time.

Stand Out Lever Action Fishing System is Easy.
How to Rig...

  1. Tie Palomar Knot on top eye with a 2-4' tag-end.
    (Don't Cut the tag-end.)
  2. Run the tag-end through the lower eye of the hook.
  3. Secure sinker to tag end.

Tip: Inspect line while you fish and re-tie often.

Standout Hook with plastic lure - tackle

Another great use to make a weedless rig. When you touch bottom with a Standout on, jig the rod tip and the lure or minnow will rock on the hook's axis. Sounds confusing...just jig the dang rod tip lightly...fish will come in for a looksee.

How to Fish Casting...

  • Bait the hook with your favorite bait.
  • Cast around any cover that may hold fish.
  • Lift the rod until you feel the rig.
  • Shake the rod tip. (The hook acts as a lever and imparts action.)
  • Feel a bite? Don't set the hook, just reel and sweep the rod up.

How to Fish Drifting...

  • Bait with your favorite bait.
  • Lower the rig and begin drift.
  • If you feel some structure, wiggle the rod tip. (Don't forget your rod is a "fulcrum", easy does it.)
  • Gotta' bite? Just lift the rod and reel.

Just a twitch of the rod and the StandOut lever action lifts the bait on the hook's axis.

How to rig a Standout Hook

Feel a bite? Unbelieveably I'm going to say this after YEARS of yelling the opposite ad nauseum to countless customers that I guided: Don't, that's right....Don't set the hook! Just lift the rod and reel hard - (I added the "reel hard" part because that's what I'm gonna be doing). You'll hook him in the upper lip with that sharp, thin hook. (I've probably ruined 25 years of fishing lessons...now everybody's going to forget how to set-the-hook yet again...)
