Rapala's Xtreme Action Jointed Shad = X-RAP

This is a large plug that made me drool! I saw it at a buying show and it screamed "BIG HONKIN' NORTHERN to me! I saw this plug and then I saw myself casting with a St. Croix 7' medium heavy rod and a Shimano Sonora 4000 reel just north of Half Dog Island on Basswood Lake or infront of Hope Creek on Insula. The awesome power of a 20+ lb. northern pike is something that's hard to forget. The biggest northern that I ever caught was 22 lb. in the 8-10 foot depths of the waters by Half Dog. I caught it while guiding and casting a J-Plug. It was an awesome fish and a ferocious fight. I released the monster back into the water to fight again another day.

All this came to mind when I saw this plug. The clown color, the red, the chartruese on the back and the holographic scale pattern just screamed "kill me - rip me to shreds!" If I was looking for monsters, this beauty would be in my tacklbox and I'd be using it on a partly cloudy to overcast day. Don't ask me why, I just feel it. Calmer water would be preferable as well.

This gives you an idea of the size of this plug. With its short, steep bill, you can expect a lot of attention-getting action. I expect a lot of teeth marks and scratches. I find nothing more satisfying than a plug in my tackle box that's been to hell and back.

Here's a collectible Rapala Hero that you can USE, too! These are limited edtition plugs!

I remember when I was a kid as the first Rapala plugs came to town. Everybody ran out and got one and, except for the fact that the screw eyes pulled out of the balsa wood when you needed them most, they worked well. They quickly fixed the screw eye pullout problem and these famous lures became the standards by which a lot of lures were measured against for many years and even now.

These are the limited edition Rapala Heros with the old foil pattern (and the high-tech stars added). They come in a nice box and you can both collect them & use them for real. Who knows? A Rapala Hero in mint condition might be worth something down the road.
