Joe's Review - This unit offers a really nice display with great detail. It's made for really moving on the water with it's high speed scroll so if you are in a fast boat, you can mark fish while zooming about. This is great for places other than the BWCA where zooming around at 70 m.p.h. is generally frowned upon. One other non-BWCA feature would be that the screen doesn't fold down for protection. You CAN take the screen off the battery case really easily and stash it. This unit allows you to store the transducer and cable inside of a waterproof case and it does everything but start the morning coffee. It would make a great unit for hopping in and out of boats and canoe day-tripping as it can use a gel cel battery. With a gel cel(not included), you can recharge it a zillion times. Summary - this is nice unit or day-trip fishing when you need portability and are going to be in different boats and canoes. It would not be the best for extended camping due to battery weight and increased size over the Humminbird. Advantages to this unit are solid inside cable storage, and ability to use an economical gel cel battery, enhanced monitor abilities and hi-speed capability. Affordably priced, too. |

Joe's Review - This is a nice little unit (fits in your hand) that actually does work. We tried it a lot in the winter and know that when you see fish going by there are fish there at about the proper depth. It's really basic, the size of a larger cellphone and can be used off a dock, over the side of a canoe, mounted to the back of a boat, or for icefishing. You need to exercise a little bit of care while handling the cable in the winter time. Summary -If you want to see what kind of bottom, if there are fish below and the depth, this simple, compact locater will do a nice job. Only drawback is that it won't read a muddy bottom - either very well or not at all. Sand, rocks, weeds wil all be indicated on the bottom of the screen if they are present. This unit basically tells you the depth, and how far down the fish are swimming by. Will not show bottom contours. If you are looking for a more casual, but still good fish finder, this will do the job well for you. |

PiranhaMAX 215 The PiranhaMAX 215 Portable features a 4 level grayscale 160V x 132H 4" display and Dual Beam sonar with 800 Watts PTP power output – all in a rugged hardshell carry case. |

Joe's Review - The Piranhamax 215 Portable is going to be a nice unit and does do a good job for all Boundary waters travel or where ever you need a portabel locator. Easy to operate, runs are 7 days on the required eight AA batteries. It's handy to be able to wrap the cord around the bas of the unit as well. The Piranhamax 215 comes with a dual beam transducer which allows you to open up a broader 60 degree cone to see a bit further out to the sides and then also a 20 degree cone which allows you to see down into deeper water. For the money, you just won't go wrong on this unit. Definitely worth owning for the BWCA and other lakes travel. |
