Silver minnows and their familiar high luster finish graced my Grandpa's tackle box and they haven't changed much in 40 years! They still work as well for northerns and trout today as they did back then. The only differences now are that they are available in colors.

Cast over weeds and along the edge of wild rice. They wobble beautifully spoon-side down at a broad 35 deg. arch and don't tangle your line. They cast like a bullet. Northerns attack them furiously and it's not uncommon to have a big lunker swallow them deep in the hit. If the northerns are being particularly aggressive, a small leader wouldn't hurt.
